Siliņa Reveals IT Scandal Increases Voter Interest: 'Finally Something Interesting is Happening in Politics'

The Prime Minister is convinced that the 1.5 million euro IT fraud scandal will only improve voter turnout, as people finally see that law enforcement agencies know how to work.

Prime Minister Evika Siliņa surprised everyone with a revolutionary approach to crisis management, announcing that the IT procurement scandal with 21 detained persons is actually great advertising for the upcoming parliamentary elections. While Riga is still trying to figure out what happened to those 1.5 million euros, vendors at Liepāja market are already laughing: "Well look, everything there is fresher than in Riga and half the price, but in politics it's the opposite — more expensive and spoiled."

"None of these processes involve any accused political persons," emphasized the Prime Minister, forgetting to mention that public procurement specialist Ainārs Biders and former VDAA director Jorens Liops aren't exactly citizens registered at the unemployment office. But technically she's correct — they're not politicians but civil servants, which means they can safely be thrown under the bus.

Siliņa also revealed a new political strategy: "It would be worse if such things happened but weren't discovered." In other words, if you're going to steal, do it so you get caught, otherwise there's no point. This approach could indeed increase voter activity, as people will want to see what other interesting things can be uncovered.

Meanwhile, ZZS leader Harijs Rokpelnis reassured that elections will be safe because votes will be counted by hand. This is truly a progressive idea — returning to 19th-century technology to avoid 21st-century fraud. Next time, perhaps elections will be conducted with smoke signals.
