Siliņa Complains That Civil Servants Are Being Bullied — Durbe Position Now Looks Like Dream Job

Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has announced a shocking revelation — civil servants are being bullied from all sides. This is almost as tragic as the fact that in Liepāja you still have to wait half an hour for a tram, but at least our bureaucrats know that criticism comes from only one side — from citizens.

Siliņa explains that her government has made the biggest changes to public administration since Dombrovskis's time, which apparently means that now civil servants not only don't want to work, but also complain loudly about it. When asked to clarify what reducing bureaucracy by 25 percent means, Siliņa gave an answer as clear as Liepāja's weather forecast — lots of words, but essentially nobody knows what will happen.

"We must continue making unpopular but necessary changes," says Siliņa, which is roughly the same as saying that North Sea storms are unpopular but necessary for Liepāja's character. Meanwhile, Durbe municipality reports receiving unusual expressions of interest from Riga civil servants — apparently the neighboring town's peace and safety from bullying is starting to seem attractive.

Local commentator Jānis from Graudu Street summarizes: "Well, if they're bullying bureaucrats in Riga, then maybe something will finally change. We in Liepāja have been doing this for years — criticizing and waiting for results."
