When someone goes missing in Liepāja, the entire city mobilizes better than Riga's traffic services at the first snowfall. This time, the search efforts have led all the way to the Šķēde allotment garden cooperative, where gardeners now look not only at their tomatoes, but also at surveillance cameras.
As local gardener Valdis tells us: "Well, I never thought in my lifetime that I'd have to watch cameras to see if someone passed by my beet beds. Usually I only check if the neighbor has stolen my cucumbers."
Šķēde Road has become a real detective paradise. Everyone with surveillance cameras now feels like CSI Miami heroes, just with gardening gloves on their hands. Even those without cameras are now thinking whether they should get some — not for garden security, but to help with search operations.
Karosta and Tosmare residents are already used to their neighborhood being full of unusual things, but now Šķēde gardeners are also involved in the big search operation.
