SS.lv receives 186,800 euro fine - amount would be enough to buy half of Karosta Prison

The Competition Council has fined SS.lv for abuse of dominant position, but the company hasn't responded yet - possibly searching for an answer on their own website.
The Competition Council has slapped SS.lv with a 186,800 euro fine for abuse of dominant position. In Liepāja, this amount would be enough to buy half of Karosta Prison — surely someone would post an ad for it under "Real Estate", "Other Objects".
Interestingly, the LETA news agency hasn't managed to reach SS representatives. Perhaps they're looking for an answer on their own website under "Miscellaneous", "Legal Consultations" or simply waiting for someone to post an ad under "Looking for", "Lawyer".
The company earned 8.967 million euros in 2024, which is considerably more than Liepāja's entire cultural budget. While we pride ourselves on our cultural events and the unique tourism offering of Karosta Prison, where visitors can enjoy authentic prison horrors, SS owners Juris Līnis and Andrejs Kivackis are splitting 8.967 million that they earned by letting people sell old sofas and look for jobs.
As one Liepāja resident said: "At least now I know why my ad for a bicycle for sale isn't shown in first place — turns out it's a matter of dominant position, not because my bike is from 1987."
Competition Council chairwoman Ieva Šmite will elaborate on this case on Thursday at 10:00 AM. We hope she won't post her speech on SS.lv under "Miscellaneous", "Announcements".
