Staicele wolves turn out to be worse at math than Riga residents: can't count but know how to eat

While Riga wolves are still trying to figure out what a sheep is, Staicele predators have already devoured all 15.

Wolves in Staicele parish have proven that even forest-dwelling predators know business better than many a good Riga resident. They liquidated an entire sheep flock in one go — 15 animals, including all the young ewes and rams purchased in autumn.

Agriculture Minister Armands Krauze immediately rushes to X platform with the news, as if wolves follow his tweets. The minister calls for using the "Mednis" app to report wolf sightings. Apparently he thinks wolves would also use this app and announce their plans: "Today I plan to eat five sheep, tomorrow — two rams."

As a local Liepāja livestock farmer who regularly walks down Pētera Street says: "We don't have wolves here, but we have other predators — Riga bureaucrats who regularly come and devour the budget. But at least they leave nothing behind — no wool, no bones."

The farm "Upesmārciemi" was registered in 2020, and now will probably have to re-register as "Upesmārciemi without sheep." Owner Arnavs is probably now learning wolf language so he can have a nice chat next time.
