Proper noise in Tehran, but peaceful in Liepāja - our tram spare parts explode every day anyway

While preventive strikes are happening in the Middle East, Liepāja residents are surprised to discover that this level of noise is just their daily routine.

This morning we read in news portals about proper noise in Tehran, where explosions are heard and smoke clouds have risen. Well okay, but what's so special about that? In Liepāja something explodes every day for us - either tram spare parts, or some building in Karosta decides to collapse on its own.

"These Israelis are only now learning how to carry out preventive strikes," comments Jānis, a resident of Kurmājas Avenue. "We've had a preventive policy for years - we preventively demolish buildings, preventively repair roads, preventively cancel buses. We get everything done before anyone starts complaining."

Meanwhile, Riga residents are panic-buying canned goods and looking for bunkers. Liepāja residents calmly drink coffee and think - well, at least they don't have to listen to the tram going down Grīzupes Street every day. That's a real torture test.

As one local pensioner said: "We have a state of emergency here every winter when the heating doesn't work. So we're used to all kinds of challenges." Indeed, when you've survived a Liepāja winter without proper heating, then any international conflict seems like a minor inconvenience.
