Ministry of Justice employees divided 330 thousand like fish at Liepāja market

While Liepāja's tram runs on four wheel parts and dreams of a new rail set, in the capital they were handing out bonuses like hot pastries.
The Ministry of Justice has decided that its employees are so good that they deserve 330 thousand euros in bonuses. For comparison — this money could buy one and a half new trams for Liepāja or fifteen coffee shops in Pētertirgus.
For their "significant contribution to achieving the ministry's strategic goals," 14 employees received cash rewards. As Anita from Karosta said: "We also sometimes manage to find lost keys, but we only get paid in gratitude for that." It would be interesting to know if these strategic goals include making court proceedings in Latvia last as long as Liepāja winters — endlessly.
The ministry also proudly announced a new women's prison that will cost ten million and be ready by 2031. Meanwhile, Liepāja's beach toilets still look like they're from the last century, but nobody's handing out bonuses for that.
The best part is that the purpose of the bonuses is supposedly to "motivate quality work that serves the public interest." As Juris from Vecliepāja said: "We also work in the public interest — every day we ride the same tram and don't complain." But all he gets paid for that is a ticket.
