Trump Threatens to Expand Targets, Liepāja's Liedags Beach Visitors Recommend Diplomacy

While the US President plans new targets in Iran, locals at Liepāja's sandy Liedags beach offer their peaceful approach to conflict resolution.
Donald Trump yesterday announced possible new targets in Iran, which only caused head-shaking at Liepāja's Liedags beach. While the president talks about "complete destruction" and punishing "bad behavior," local beachgoers point out that conflicts can be resolved much more simply.
"Look, if someone builds a sandcastle on Liedags where I wanted to sunbathe, I'm not going to start threatening them with complete annihilation," says pensioner Uldis, who has been taking morning walks on the beach for 20 years. "I'll just say - hey buddy, could you move over a bit? And it usually works out."
Trump accused Iran of trying to "take over the Middle East," but in Liepāja such rhetoric seems quite exaggerated. "We also sometimes have Riga tourists trying to take over the best spots on our beach, but we don't start talking about capitulation," laughs local café owner Maija.
Iran's president has already apologized to Persian Gulf states, which earns appreciation from Liedags regulars. "A normal person, if they mess something up, they apologize. No need to talk about decades and complete collapse," concludes Uldis, watching the waves peacefully wash against the shore. "Here with us we also sometimes have little conflicts, but afterwards everyone goes to 'Fontāna' together for coffee."
While Washington plans strategies, Liepāja continues to prove that the best diplomacy is simple conversation by the sea.
