Trump Seeks New Iranian Leader, but All Candidates Have Vanished Like Liepāja's Tram in the Fog

The US President sighs that his planned Iranian leaders are dead, but offers to find someone local.
US President Donald Trump this week faced a problem familiar to any Liepāja city council election organizer – all the best candidates have disappeared. During a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump admitted that "many people we had planned are dead."
This situation resembles Liepāja's mayoral elections, just with slightly more dramatic consequences. While in Riga politicians usually disappear only temporarily in scandals, Trump has to search for new candidates among the survivors.
Particularly spicy is that Trump rejected former Shah's son Reza Pahlavi, who lives in the US. "I think maybe someone from inside the country would be more suitable," Trump explained. That's like saying Liepāja's mayor should be someone who actually knows where the Karosta pier is and why the tram is always late.
"Well, of course he chooses a local," comments Liepāja political expert Jānis Bērziņš. "It's like trying to run Liepāja port from Riga – theoretically possible, but practically pointless. Locals know when the wind blows and when it's better to stay home."
So far Trump has announced that 48 Iranian leaders have been liquidated, which is more than Liepāja has had city council deputies since independence was restored. Apparently Americans work more efficiently than our election commission.
