Trump Offers Iran the Same Thing Liepāja City Council Candidates Promise Before Elections

The American president has promised to make Iran 'great again', which sounds about as credible as promises of free public transport.
Donald Trump announced yesterday that Iran needs 'unconditional surrender', after which he will help make this country 'economically bigger, better and stronger than ever before'. Such promises sound familiar in Liepāja — that's exactly how our city council candidates claim before elections that after victory, the city will become the second Singapore.
Liepāja political commentator Jānis Vētra notes: 'Trump is promising Iran the same thing they promise us every four years — an economic miracle and a brighter future. The only difference — Iran needs to surrender, but for us a ballot is enough.' Meanwhile, the prevailing silence at Lake Liepāja perfectly illustrates how many of these promises actually come true — unlike sea storms, which at least make noise.
The US president hasn't specified exactly what kind of Iranian leadership would be 'acceptable', but given his experience with staff turnover, most likely at least three rotations will be needed here too.
While diplomatic talks continue in the Middle East with the help of rockets, in Liepāja we pride ourselves on our peaceful approach to conflict resolution — the biggest problem right now is whether the tram is really free or still costs 40 cents.
