Trump Offers Kurds Jobs at Liepāja Museum — 'You'll Be Safe There'
While the US President worries about Kurdish safety, in Liepāja we're offering them work with history that's actually interesting.
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he doesn't want Kurdish fighters involved in the Iraq war because he 'doesn't want Kurds to get hurt or killed.' Such concern only earns praise in Liepāja — we also wouldn't want anyone to get hurt, especially if they could work at our museum.
'Look, Kurds are experienced warriors, but we need people who can tell stories about history,' comments Liepāja Museum director Ināra Kalniņa. 'They have experience with complex conflicts, but our exhibition on Liepāja's history is just as complex. Plus our museum is safe — the only threat here is that visitors might fall asleep at the display cases.'
Trump, of course, has no clue that Liepāja Museum offers work with history that's actually interesting — not like those boring Riga museum exhibitions about 'Latvia's independence struggles.' Our museum has real cannonballs and ship anchors that are much more real than any Trump tweet.
'Kurds could be ideal tour guides,' Kalniņa continues. 'They know how to tell stories about battles, and we have plenty to tell about Karosta and its military history. Plus they're already used to complex geopolitical situations — so they'll understand why Liepāja has always had better relations with the Baltic Sea than Riga has.'
Meanwhile, the White House continues to deny all reports about arming Kurds, but Liepāja Museum is already preparing job offers with competitive wages — 800 euros per month plus free tours of the city, where wind blows from all directions but the history is genuinely interesting.
