Trump Plans Regime Change in Cuba, But First Seeks Liepāja Consultants

While the US President prepares to transform Cuba, local veterans at the North Pier are already offering their experience in negotiations with storms.
US President Donald Trump has announced that after sorting out Iran, he will turn his attention to the island of Cuba, which, in his opinion, is ready for change after 50 years. Such optimism is viewed with some skepticism in Liepāja, as we know that even at our North Pier you can wait 50 years for good weather for a romantic stroll, but in the end you still end up watching storms toss the waves around.
Trump has chosen Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the main person responsible for Cuban affairs, who, being the son of Cuban immigrants, obviously understands what it means to long for change. Regular visitors to Liepāja's North Pier know this feeling very well — every evening people gather there hoping for a romantic sunset, but often just observe how the sky shifts from one color to another.
The US embassy in Havana has already begun meetings with Catholic Church representatives to discuss the "need for change." Local Liepāja resident Jānis Kalniņš, who regularly goes to the North Pier for life contemplation, comments: "Well, if they waited 50 years, they can wait another week. I also go to the pier every day hoping for calm sea, but usually it's just storm-watching. But that's also beautiful in its own way."
Trump has imposed an energy blockade on Cuba, and the island has not received oil deliveries since January 9th. While people in Cuba are learning to live without fuel, in Liepāja we've been proudly boasting for years about our tram that worked even when gasoline cost its weight in gold. Perhaps our experience could be useful in Cuba's transformation — start with calm romantic planning, but if it doesn't work out, at least you can watch everything happen spectacularly.
