Three Pine Trees Have Undertaken to Organize Their Own Motorsport Competition in Lauma
Liepāja motorsport enthusiasts are fighting against three pine tree partisans who refuse to retreat from the track and are threatening international competitions.
At the Lauma motor track, a situation as dramatic as a Hollywood movie has developed – three pine trees have taken on the hero role and categorically refuse to step aside for motorsport enthusiasts. The trees, who apparently haven't been informed that they're not officially registered as competition participants, continue to occupy positions right in the most dangerous spots of the track.
"Baltic Sea Cup" organizers have been trying for ten years to convince these trees that their participation isn't mandatory, but the pines remain relentless. Maybe they think they're nature's version of speed cameras? "We just want safe sport," says one of the organizers. "But these pines are acting like they just arrived from Riga – they don't want to move anywhere and think everyone should go around them."
Liepāja Special Economic Zone administration and SIA "NorSAF" have already agreed to relocate the trees to permanent camps, but the Plant and Animal Protection Commission is currently refusing to issue "deportation documents." The commission, it seems, understands the pines' motivation – after all, they also want to participate in some kind of "Baltic Sea" activity.
Meanwhile, motorsport enthusiasts are planning March competitions, hoping that the pines will finally understand – there's room for everyone in Liepāja, but only if you don't interfere with others driving in circles at 80 kilometers per hour. Maybe the pines simply want to be part of the industrial district – who knows, perhaps they dream of becoming furniture in some famous Liepāja company?
