Ukrainian diplomats arrive in Geneva — Liepāja residents surprised anyone would choose Switzerland over Kurzeme coast for negotiations

Geneva hosts another round of international negotiations, but Liepāja's diplomatic experts are traditionally shaking their heads at such a choice.
While the Ukrainian delegation made their way to the Swiss capital for "constructive talks," as delegation leader Umerov indicated, local Liepāja international relations connoisseurs are surprised by such a venue choice.
"Well, of course Geneva is beautiful, but haven't they heard about Liepāja Beach? Here the wind blows so hard that all disagreements would be blown away instantly," philosophically mused pensioner Jānis by Rainis Park. "And if they want mountains — Pāvilosta is just as mountainous as Switzerland, only without those expensive cheese sandwiches."
Meanwhile, local diplomacy enthusiast Gunārs from the Center pointed out: "In Riga, of course, they could also hold negotiations, but there's so much noise there — how can a person properly discuss peace issues? Here in Liepāja it's ideal — just the murmur of the sea and the song of the wind. Even the most complex conflicts would be resolved."
The results of the Swiss negotiations are not yet known, but Liepāja city council is already considering the possibility of offering their services for international negotiations in the future.
