Ukrainian drones heat up Russian oil base — fire produces more heat than Liepāja port when fishermen tell tales about their fresh catch

In Krasnodar region, Ukrainian drones caused a fire at an oil base. 83 people are fighting flames that have engulfed 150 square meters.

Ukrainian drones have once again proven they're better couriers than Latvia Post. This time they delivered a small surprise to the Tikhoretsk oil base in Krasnodar region, where suddenly 150 square meters caught fire. This is about as unexpected as a winter storm in mid-March — everyone knows it can happen, but everyone's still surprised.

Oil base workers are now running around with hoses like fishermen at Liepāja port with their freshly caught fish — both telling the same tales, just one about fire, the other about catch size. 83 people and 26 units of equipment are fighting the flames, which is almost as many resources as Riga needs to fix one pothole on Brīvības Street.

The Tikhoretsk complex is one of the largest oil product transshipment points in southern Russia, operated by a subsidiary of state-controlled company Transneft. Now they'll have a new experience — learning to work with a burning workplace. It's roughly like trying to organize a concert on Liepāja beach in February — technically possible, but no sane person would do it.

Local residents say such fire hasn't been seen since someone tried to cook borscht with a gasoline burner. As one firefighter said: 'We're ready for anything, but not for our job becoming an extreme sport.'
