Germans Want Gold at Home - Liepāja's Reserves Already Safe at Olympic Center

While Germans worry about their gold in the US, Liepāja has long known that all valuables should be kept at home.

Hot debates have erupted in the German Bundestag over whether 1,236 tons of gold should be left in New York or brought home after all. AfD representative Peter Beringer anxiously points out that property rights are no longer guaranteed, while central bank president Joachim Nagel calmly responds that everything is fine.

While Germans are still pondering, this issue was resolved long ago in Liepāja. Local resident Jānis Liepiņš explains: "We've known for ages - all valuables should be kept at home. Our gold is safely stored at the Olympic Center because it has the best security in the entire city. Plus there's a pool next door - if anyone tries to steal it, the swimmers will notice immediately."

Meanwhile in Riga, they're still discussing whether a commission should be created to consider this matter. "We need at least three working groups and two expert opinions," says an anonymous official. Germans could learn from Liepāja's experience - if it's important, keep it at home; if it's not important, why store it at all.

Interestingly, 37 percent of Germany's gold is located in the US, but in Liepāja 100 percent of the most important things are located where they should be - in the warmth of home. Either at the Olympic Center, or at least on the Grobiņa side with relatives.
