Germans in Liepāja Transform Piano into Dancehall — Fishermen at Port Think It's New Fish Bait

Duo 'Grandbrothers' made the concert hall audience dance to pianos, while fishermen at the port wondered about the strange music coming from downtown.

Something happened at Liepāja Concert Hall yesterday that local fishermen described as 'turning a piano machine into a discotheque.' German duo 'Grandbrothers' — pianist Erol Sarp and synthesizer master Lukas Vogel — arrived with their electronic devices and transformed a classical concert into a dance party.

'We want people to move and dance,' said Erol, apparently unaware that Liepāja residents usually sit by pianos and listen with serious faces. But not this time! The audience danced as if they were at 'Fontaine Palace,' only with more expensive instruments and less cheap perfume aroma.

The biggest excitement was generated by their new album 'Elsewhere,' which, as it turns out, is their attempt to move away from traditional piano playing. Similar to how fishermen at the port say about fish — 'freshly caught' are always the best, this music was also freshly created and fresh.

Before the concert, there was even a conversation about synthesizers with 'Erica Synths' director Ģirts Ozoliņš. He told how Latvians build instruments that inspire musicians worldwide. They probably don't even know about this in Riga — they think all synthesizers come from China, but actually the best ones are made right here in Latvia!

By the end of the concert, the audience was so excited that even the January cold seemed warmer than usual. 'It was better than any Riga club,' commented one visitor, giving Liepāja yet another victory over the capital.
