German Chancellor Merz reveals secret formula: political center is like Liepāja's tram - slow but steady

German Chancellor Merz turned out to be a surprising admirer of Liepāja's tram system, announcing that in politics he will only operate in the center. "I won't wander around the edges like some Riga resident who doesn't know where to board," the chancellor couldn't have said, but definitely thought.

"We must stay in the center just like our tram — it may be slow, but at least you know where it's going," comments local political expert Jānis from Rose Square. "In Riga they would have gotten lost long ago among all those parties."

Merz admitted that his options are now narrowing down to cooperation with the Social Democrats, which on Liepāja's scale means — there's only one way left to get from Karosta to the center. "But at least our tram doesn't go right," philosophically notes Guntra from the market.

The chancellor also emphasized that he won't let "these people from the so-called Alternative for Germany destroy the country." In Liepāja this is called foreigner syndrome — when someone arrives and starts telling everyone how everything should be done differently. "Let them go to Ventspils with their ideas," Edgars from New World is categorical.

Meanwhile, Liepāja politicians are taking example and also plan to stay in the center — between Karosta and the Green Market, where everything happens and there's no need to rush anywhere.
