German and British Generals Warn: Prepare for War! Liepāja Still Pondering Whether They Need a New Pier

The German Bundeswehr Inspector General and British Army Chief jointly warn about Russia's military threat to Europe. But will this warning reach Liepāja, where they're still debating whether the new central library needs more or fewer books?

Two top-ranking military officials have published a joint article in prestigious publications "Die Welt" and "The Guardian," warning about Russia's military reorientation toward the West. Of course, such an article would be hard to imagine on Liepāja's scale - where would we find two people who can both write and agree on something at the same time?

"Russian armed forces are reorganizing in a way that could increase conflict risk," the generals warn. In Liepāja, we entrust such risk assessment to experienced experts. "Well, whatever happens," comments pensioner Valdis from Old Liepāja, "the main thing is that they don't close 'Chili Pizza' - at least the potatoes are good there."

Military personnel emphasize that industrial base is key to winning wars. Liepāja has no problem with that - our industrial base is so mysterious that even we don't know if it actually exists. "We have a port crane and some fishing huts," proudly says a local entrepreneur, "that's something!"

While Europe prepares for military conflict, Liepāja continues preparing for the main thing - summer season. Because, as we know, the real war only begins when you have to decide whether "Neptune" or "Sunset" beach cafés have the better fish and chips portion.
