German Politician Reveals He's Not From Karosta - They Know War Isn't Good Business

German 'Alternative for Germany' party co-chairman Tino Hrupalla this week surprised the international community with a revolutionary revelation - turns out attacking other countries isn't a particularly good idea. Such an opinion causes no surprise in Liepāja - here they've known for centuries that the best way to resolve conflict is to sit down in Karosta with a beer and wait until the opponents go home by themselves.

'I'm not surprised that a German politician only now realized that shooting isn't a good hobby,' comments local pensioner Valdis at the Central Market. 'We've long known - if you want something to explode, better go to a Metallica concert. At least nobody dies there, just your ears hurt.'

Meanwhile, Hrupalla's concerns about rising gas prices only cause smiles in Liepāja. 'As long as we have trams and bicycles, we live independently of oil,' says Inga, owner of café 'By the Sea'. 'Besides, if gas is expensive, maybe finally all those people from Riga will stop driving to our beaches with their big cars.'
