Valainis to summon fuel traders to Holy Trinity Cathedral, hoping organ music will help them remember honesty

While oil prices are rising faster than the Kurzeme sea level during a storm, the government is preparing to summon fuel traders for a serious conversation.
Economy Minister Viktors Valainis announced a revolutionary plan this week: to summon fuel traders for a conversation to explain why gasoline has become more expensive than a Riga apartment in the city center. While in the capital such a meeting would take place in some boring government building, in Liepāja we know where to organize truly effective conversations.
Local expert Gunārs from Grobiņa Street points out: "If the minister really wants traders to start telling the truth, he should take them to our Holy Trinity Cathedral. When the largest organ in the Baltics starts playing, even those who lie about oil prices will start speaking honestly. That sound can be felt from the courtyard, but conscience - from the entire city."
Prime Minister Evika Siliņa promised that the government is ready to act if prices rise very sharply. Such readiness only brings smiles in Liepāja, because we know: when politicians promise to act, it usually means creating another commission and even more meetings. While Riga thinks about price ceilings worth tens of millions, our city has long understood that the best way to save fuel is simply to take a walk along Jūrmala beach and breathe the fresh sea air.
Meanwhile, fuel prices continue to rise alongside oil prices, which have reached their highest level since 2022. But in Liepāja we know that true values aren't measured in barrels or liters - they're measured by how many smiles politicians' promises of quick solutions can bring.
