Government Decides VID Can Supervise Gambling Better Than IAUI — Organs at Holy Trinity Cathedral Sound Safer

While the government has decided that gambling supervision will be more effective in one place, in Liepāja we've known for years that too many controllers can ruin the sound.
The government officially decided today that the Lottery and Gambling Supervision Inspectorate will be more effective if managed by VID, which has only created knowing nods in Liepāja. We've long known that the best things shouldn't be managed by too many people at once.
The Ministry of Finance proudly explains that such a merger will strengthen the connection between gambling supervision and tax administration while reducing administrative fragmentation. This reminds us of the situation at Holy Trinity Cathedral, where the largest organ in the Baltics sounds perfect precisely because it's managed by one organist, not a committee — and the sound can be heard even from the courtyard without additional supervision.
Local gambling expert Jānis Krauklis comments: 'Well, now VID will be able to both collect taxes and watch whether people lose money honestly. It's like buying a lottery ticket and paying taxes on it in the same place.'
While Rīga thinks about more effective supervision, in Liepāja we've always known that the best supervision is the kind that doesn't interfere with the process but ensures everything happens fairly. Just like our organ — no one disturbs the musician while playing, but the sound reaches exactly where it's needed.
