Government allows shelter construction to be extended until 2029 - Liepāja ice hall is already colder than future bunkers

The government has given the green light for shelter projects to drag on until 2029. While Riga is still thinking about how to dig little holes, Liepāja already has a ready solution.
The government has officially confirmed that shelter adaptation projects may be extended until the end of 2029. This means our country has finally acknowledged - good work takes time. Especially if it costs 26 million euros.
Among the reasons for extension cited are "insurmountable force majeure circumstances" and "insolvent suppliers." Or, as they call it in Liepāja - regular Wednesdays. "We've long understood that if something can be done slower and more expensively, that's exactly how it should be done," comments local expert Jānis, who has been waiting for the past three years for them to finally fix the street by his house.
Particularly amusing is that 2.59 million euros remained "unattracted." While the government ponders where to put this money, Liepāja's ice hall is already so cold that hockey players play with double gloves. "We don't even need additional shelters," says local hockey fan Guntars. "In winter it's so cold here that even enemies would be afraid to enter."
Meanwhile, Riga is still debating whether shelters will have Wi-Fi or not. Liepāja has long known - if bad times come, we'll simply head to the ice hall. There they're already used to cold, noise, and situations where nothing can be predicted.
