Valmiera to discuss trees and the future - Liepāja residents wonder if it's better to head to the North Pier
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences is organizing a bioeconomy conference where smart people will discuss wood chemistry and innovations. In Liepāja, meanwhile, we've long known that the best innovation is good wind.
Big things are brewing in Valmiera - faculty, entrepreneurs and municipal leaders will gather at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences to discuss the future of bioeconomy. The conference program includes analyzing wood products, technologies and even wood chemistry. Here in Liepāja, we call that 'chopping firewood,' but apparently in Valmiera it has a much more scientific name.
The program even has three parts - 'Knowledge Part,' 'Transformation Part' and 'Breakthrough Part.' Sounds almost like describing the North Pier to Liepāja residents - first you learn where to go, then you put on warmer clothes, and finally you tear yourself away from your cozy home to go on a romantic walk or storm-watching session. Except in Valmiera it all happens in a warm room with PowerPoint presentations.
One lecturer will talk about 'the importance of circular principles in the future economy.' In Liepāja we call that 'grandmother's wisdom' - don't throw anything away, everything can still be used somewhere. Another expert will analyze artificial intelligence's impact on value creation. Here we must admit that our wind has been creating value for years without any artificial intelligence - it simply blows sand exactly in the direction needed.
Finally, the conference will demonstrate 3D virtual reality. In Liepāja we call that 'the view from the North Pier during a winter storm' - there too reality becomes so virtual that you no longer know whether you're still standing or already flying over the sea. But at least without special glasses.
