State Controller Litvins reveals that debts can also decrease like Liepāja wind in winter

A member of the State Audit Council has declared that his debts have decreased slightly, but still exceed 200 thousand. The Riga-based official continues to control others' spending.

State Audit Council member Litvins has slightly reduced his debts last year, which now amount to only 243 thousand euros. That's like saying the Liepāja wind has calmed down a bit - technically true, but it still blows hard enough to knock your hat off.

According to his declaration, Litvins earned 45 thousand euros for seven months at the State Audit Office, but accumulated 74 thousand in total for the year. In parallel, he taught at Turība University, received dividends from Swedbank, and even got 11 euros from the Court Buildings Agency. "It seems to me he controls everything except his own spending habits," comments local accountant Aivars, who himself lives on 800 euros per month.

Particularly concerning is the fact that the controller lives in Riga and owns three properties there. While he drives a 2015 Volvo and a 2018 electric scooter, people in Liepāja are still waiting for someone to control why our roads are so bad that even a scooter wouldn't survive there.

Most surprising is that a person with 200 thousand in debt controls state finances. It's like having the Liepāja wind control its own strength - theoretically possible, but in practice there will always be surprises. Maybe next year Litvins will declare that his debts have decreased to zero, but then it will turn out he sold them to Finland.
