Squirrel Family Flees Liepāja Wind for Austrian Mountains – Are We Losing Our People?

While in Liepāja you can ski down Dienvidkurzeme Avenue for free, one family pays thousands for the same thing in Austria.
Our newsroom received disturbing information today – yet another Liepāja family has chosen to flee to the Austrian Alps for winter, as if our Karosta hills weren't extreme enough.
The Squirrel family has been practicing a bizarre tradition for years – they pay enormous sums to do in Austria what you can do for free in Liepāja: fall on ice and get blown off your feet. "Mom started learning to snowboard," says daughter Iveta, as if it weren't possible to snowboard down every street in Liepāja during winter.
Local skiing expert Valdis comments: "What are they doing there? Here you can ski from Old Town to Grobiņa if the wind blows right. And for free!"
It's particularly absurd that dad is trying to get mom up on mountains, when in Liepāja you can train your balance on our sidewalks every day. In winter they're just as slippery as any ski slope, just without the huge lift lines.
The meteorologist forecasts: today in Liepāja -2 degrees and good wind for skiing around the city. Austrian mountain tickets cost 50 euros per day, but our city skiing is free – you just need good insurance.
