Weather enthusiasts eagerly report that Vidzeme experienced a proper spring thunderstorm that was as impressive as Riga mayor's promises before elections. Lightning tore through the skies, illuminating the surroundings better than Riga's street lighting.
Temperatures over the weekend reportedly exceeded +15 degrees, which in Vidzeme is considered tropical heat. Riga residents are already starting to plan picnics and complain about the heat, while Liepāja residents look at the Baltic Sea, which is windy and cold even in summer, and realize they still have time.
Local Cēsis resident Gunārs reports: "The thunder rumbled so loud that even neighbor Valdis woke up, but that was only for five minutes. The lightning was more beautiful than in downtown Riga, and that's saying something."
