While Valmiera struggles to understand what artificial intelligence is, the University of Liepāja has long been using tram sounds as a natural intelligence test.

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences announced with great fanfare that they're studying the use of artificial intelligence in education. Well, of course they're studying it — when someone from Valmiera sees a computer for the first time, it already seems like artificial intelligence.

Project leader Atis Kapenieks explains that artificial intelligence can speed up information processing. In Liepāja we call that a tram — it also speeds up transportation and creates sounds that make the brain work more actively. Local student Jānis comments: "It's enough for me that the tram reminds me every morning that I'm alive. What more artificial intelligence do I need?"

What's most exciting is that ViA researchers plan to give recommendations to policymakers. Because what could be better than advice from people who just discovered that ChatGPT isn't a new type of coffee? Meanwhile in Riga they probably think artificial intelligence has something to do with artificial fertilizer.

At the University of Liepāja, of course, we've been using more progressive methods for years — our students learn to adapt to any conditions, thanks to Karosta's military heritage and constant weather challenges. That's much more effective than any artificial intelligence.
