Vilis Daudziņš proves that even actors can get lost in Liepāja: A psychological drama with phone drawings unfolded in Pegaza's courtyard

While Riga's theater critics are still trying to understand what true art is, Liepāja's "Pegaza" courtyard proved this week that culture can be as thrilling as a "Liepājas Metalurgs" game against a Riga team. Vilis Daudziņš arrived for the "Off Camera" evening, but first performed a real-life drama by getting lost in the city.

As Viktorija Gaiķe recounted, there was a small intrigue at the beginning of the evening — where is the actor? It turns out Daudziņš had proven that even professionals can face the complexity of Liepāja's streets. One of the attendees commented: "This just proves that Liepāja is so unique that even actors play roles here before getting on stage."

During the evening, 100 visitors learned some surprising things. For example, that Daudziņš's illustrated book about the Song Festival was created by drawing with his finger on a phone. That's almost as impressive as our hockey fans' ability to support the team even when the results aren't particularly encouraging. The actor admitted that he looks at people like a psychologist, which explains why his conversation was as captivating as an analysis of why "Liepājas Metalurgs" fans are the most loyal in Latvia.

The evening's climax was the moment when Daudziņš read his poetry about misunderstood love while Laura Bluķe and Normunds Kalniņš provided music. One attendee commented: "Such evenings prove that culture of the same quality as in Riga can happen in Liepāja, just without that big city arrogance." Maija Kalniņa as the evening's host proved that professionalism and warmth can go hand in hand — a quality that has never been rare in Liepāja.
