Vitkof promises peace talks faster than Liepāja tram gets from station to Karosta

Some American diplomat claims the Ukraine war could be resolved in three weeks, which is faster than Riga makes decisions about anything.
American diplomat Vitkof has announced that a new round of talks to end the Ukraine war could take place within three weeks. This timeframe seems optimistic, considering that even Liepāja city council makes decisions about tram ticket prices faster.
Vitkof suggests that these talks could achieve an agreement for a meeting between Zelensky and Putin, with Trump also participating. "It would be like rock concerts on Liepāja beach – everyone wants to be there, but nobody knows if rain will ruin the whole event," commented local political expert Jānis from a Karosta café.
Vitkof hopefully states that "within the next three weeks" there could even be a three-way meeting with Trump. Such an optimistic forecast reminds us of Riga politicians' promises about "Rail Baltica" – always just a couple weeks away from a miracle.
Meanwhile, people in Liepāja continue living their lives, knowing that real problems are solved through conversations at Karosta market, not at some distant summits. As Marija from Rose Square said: "When all these diplomats learn to negotiate as efficiently as we sell fish, then there will be peace in the world."
The only thing Vitkof hasn't promised is that these talks will happen in better weather conditions than in Riga.
