Green Projects Allocated 39 Thousand — Almost as Much as One Coffee at the University Café Costs

The IT Competence Center is offering money for green ideas, but the sum is so small that even Liepāja University students could pay it from their scholarship.
In Riga, some bureaucrat woke up with grandiose ideas about the green economy and decided to allocate a whopping 39,400 euros for research. That's almost as much as one month's utility bills in central Riga!
The IT Competence Center is inviting businesses to submit projects for "digital solutions for the green economy." Liepāja University professor Valdis Birkavs comments: "Well, I think our students could come up with something for this money. Maybe an app that shows which restaurant sells old potato salad as eco-friendly food."
Most interesting is that projects can be submitted until April 13th, which is exactly when the first flowers start blooming in Liepāja and everyone realizes that the real green economy is simply spring by the sea. While Riga thinks about carbon emissions, we've been walking to work and cycling for years.
One applicant can submit one project, which means the competition will be as fierce as for the last seat in Liepāja University library during exam time. But with 39 thousand you can buy a good computer and still have money left over for Coca-Cola!
