Nissan Driver on Zemnieku Street Demonstrates That His Navigation Is as Precise as the Sound of Holy Trinity Cathedral's Organ

A local driver decided that a road sign and building facade were much more interesting route points than the regular roadway.

Yesterday on Zemnieku Street, what we in Liepāja call 'creative parking' took place. Some guy with a Nissan decided that regular driving on the road was too boring, so he chose a much more thrilling route — through a road sign and straight into a building facade.

Police diplomatically indicate that the driver could have been 'under the influence of medications that reduce reaction speed and attention, or being sick, or tired to such an extent.' In other words — either he was high as a kite, or simply decided that GPS is just a suggestion, not an instruction.

As local residents say: 'If you can feel the sound of Holy Trinity Cathedral's organ from the courtyard, then all the neighbors heard the sound of this crash too.' Though admittedly, organ music is usually more harmonious than metal hitting concrete.

While in Riga such maneuvering might only get you a fine, in Liepāja the driver was taken to a medical facility — apparently to check whether he has some special superpower to see alternative routes. The State Police are now trying to determine the exact causes of the accident, because apparently even they find it odd why someone would choose a building facade as a braking system.

The only positive thing in this story — even our accidents happen with style in our city. In Riga such a driver would probably have gotten stuck in some pothole and still be arguing with the insurance company.
