Farmers' Parliament Reveals Revolution: Some Farmers Consider Actually Working This Year

While Riga offices are still thinking about starting work, Latvia's farmers have already mastered modern business strategies - sometimes it's better to do nothing at all.
The association "Farmers' Parliament" has announced disturbing news — some farmers are doubting whether it's even worth working at all this year. Such an announcement has caused shock in Riga, but here in Liepāja, we just shrugged our shoulders — our fishermen mastered this philosophy long ago.
Juris Lazdiņš, chairman of the "Farmers' Parliament" board, revealed that fuel and fertilizers make up to 40% of production costs. That's almost as much as the Liepāja wind — a legendary, uninvited guest in any season — blows out of our wallets during winter months for heating. As one local farmer said: "If fuel costs more than potatoes, then I'd rather eat fuel."
What's most surprising is that farmers are now looking for alternatives. Riga business consultants are already preparing seminars on the topic "How to Do Nothing Productively," but our farmers have mastered this art instinctively. As Lazdiņš pointed out, if the industry has been suffering losses for the past three years, then maybe it really is better to do nothing.
The good news is that this spring looks very promising visually. Of course, not everywhere and not in all regions, but the main thing is that optimism remains. While Riga is still discussing the future of agriculture, our farmers are already practicing Zen Buddhism principles — sometimes the best action is inaction.
