Swedes discover that Liepāja can be bought in pieces: 'Stena Line' officially acquires the city's main entrance

While Riga is still figuring out how to properly name their port, Swedish company 'Stena Line' has already become the owner of Liepāja's terminal.
Swedish company "Stena Line" has officially completed the biggest purchase of a Liepāja piece since some genius decided to sell the city's tramway line. Now the Swedes have become owners of "Terrabalt" and control everything that drives in and out of our city. What's next — will they buy the wind too?
"The deal is closed, and we have officially become the owners," proudly announced Liene Lēmane, proving that Swedes speak Latvian better than some Riga politicians. She also promised to "gradually develop and modernize the terminal," which in Liepāja context means that maybe we'll finally have a decent café where you can wait for the ferry.
"Miracles don't happen overnight," continued the director, who obviously has never been to Liepāja in winter, when the wind can relocate half the port in one night. The Swedes promised to follow a "similar path" as in Ventspils, which gives hope that they won't forget — Liepāja has not only a port, but also Latvia's only tram that still runs.
Now Liepāja has become part of the Swedish Baltic Sea empire, which includes Ventspils, Karlskrona and some other ports. While Riga thinks about how to compete with Tallinn, Liepāja residents can proudly say — our port is run by the same people who know how to properly organize maritime traffic. And if something doesn't please us, we can always take the tram to the city center.
